Sierra Jenice: A Short Story

Improved Essays
When I was born, my parents named me on the spot. You want to know how I got the name, Sierra Jenice? Well, you better keep reading then, it's somewhat interesting. My mother and father came together to name me. Probably the only thing they ever agreed on, but I’d say I got a pretty nifty name out of it. I’ll tell you the origin of my first, middle and last name. Also what it means to my family and even to myself. Can't forget the stories to how they came up with the ideas! We’ll start with my first name, Sierra. My first name, Sierra is of spanish origin. It actually means “mountain range”, a specific range with sharp jagged peaks all over. It also means “saw” because of the high populations of lumberjacks in the mountainous regions my name originates from. When my parents named me, in 2000 “Sierra” was the fifty-third most common name in the United States of America. But yet, my parents never knew anyone named Sierra so they thought it’d be a good name. Now it's the four hundred and fifth most common name in the USA. They loved camping at Hargus Lake in Circleville, Ohio, where I'm from. The camper they had at the campground was a Sierra camper. Don’t ask me why they chose to name me after that, maybe I don’t want to know why and maybe it’s for …show more content…
It doesn't have an origin, other than it came from my mom. My mother made my middle name by using the first letter of her name, Jeanette, so J. And used her middle name Denise, to create Jenice. My dad loved the idea, they agreed that it'd be my name, for there little girl. The name can't be that common unless someone thought it was pretty, randomly. I couldn't find a statistic on how popular it is. But that's really all I have about my middle name. But I really do like my middle name. Its special to me and my mother. “Its special to me, like you are to me” is what she always tells me. She wanted it to be unique and something to show i’d never be able to forget her. Lastly on to my last

When looking at Juana’s and Adelina’s narratives in the book Across a Hundred Mountains by Reyna Grande several insincere in their stories can be connected to the critical and feminist perspectives (Grande, 2007). The feminist theory can be used in understanding and intervening in Juana and her friend Adelina engagement in prostitution (Grande, 2007). In Juana’s friends situation she is being oppressed by her boyfriend, therefore by using the feminist perspective a social worker use the perspective to “understand the gender dimensions of practice” and use “commonalities between feminism and social work based on the values shared by all women because of their shared experiences” (Grande, 2007)(Payne, 2014, p. 364). Furthermore, the feminist perspective is essential when looking at Juana’s situation, Juana has engaged in prostitution thinking that sometime people have to sacrifices their bodies to get what they need like her mother (Grande, 2007). At such a young age Juana believes that if her mother had sex for necessity it is Okay for her too, therefore when focusing on these believes and experiences that females have experienced it can be proven beneficial to help Juan (Grande, 2007)…

The most interesting piece of information that I could find on Wayne being a middle name is the fact that there are apparently more serial killers with the middle name Wayne than any other middle name. As some examples, there is John Wayne Gacy, who killed almost three dozen boys and young men in the late 1970s and buried most of them beneath the floorboards of his Des Plaines, Illinois home, and Elmer Wayne Henley, who was sentenced to six consecutive life terms in 1974 in Houston for his role, with ringleader Dean Allen Corll, in the murders of 27 young men (“Name Berry: Baby Names Only…

The definition of being heroic is not set in stone, it is very subjective and it can be different to each person. The most accurate way to describe it is saying it is completely determined by the opinion of other people. It doesn’t matter if said person just saved everyone in the world, if no one believes they are heroic then they aren’t. In the book The Three Sisters by Julia Alvarez the most heroic character is Minerva, she has done many brave and selfless things which has led people to feel that she is a hero. There are three main characteristics that a person needs in order for other people to perceive them as heroic.…
