Sierra Club Research Paper

Improved Essays
The Sierra Club was founded in the year 1892 by the well-known conservationist John Muir also known as the Father of our National Parks. The Sierra club was led by John Muir from 1901-1913 in an operation to protect the Hetch Hetchy Valley, a part of Yosemite National Park, from being used as a reservoir. John Muir describes the majestic beauty of Hetch Hetchy valley in the Yosemite national park "Dam Hetch Hetchy! As well dam for water-tanks the people's cathedrals and churches, for no holier temple has ever been consecrated by the heart of man."(John Muir).

No environmental issue symbolizes the Sierra Clubs historical role in protecting the Earth’s natural wonders like its efforts to preserve and restore the Hetch Yosemite National park.
