Steroids are strong chemical substances that can decrease swelling and inflammation quickly. These drugs are closely related to cortisol, a hormone that is produced from the cortex of the adrenal glands. Another name for Steroids is Corticosteroids. They are mostly used when it comes to arthritis treatment because of their anti-inflammatory properties, but is recommended as a low dose or short term treatment when possible to reduce side effects. Some of the Corticosteroids drugs include Budesonide, Betamethasone, Cortisone, Hydrocortisone, Triamcinolone and Prednisolone. These drugs can be given orally, injected into the vein or muscle, applied locally to the skin or injected directly into inflamed joints. They also control inflammation of …show more content…

The baseball player Mark McGwire was in route to breaking a home run record that was standing for decades. He was caught with a bottle of a nutritional supplement in his locker that contained steroids. Jose Canseco admitted that he used steroids. The most famous baseball players that used steroids were Jason Giambi and Barry Bonds. They both used a duo of undetectable steroids known as “the cream” and “the clear”. On the other hand the use of anabolic steroids on female, may result in inhibition of follicle formation, ovulation and can cause irregularities of the menstrual cycle. Another effect on females can increased sexual desire and hypertrophy of the clitoris. These effects are similar to the effects of all the patients that were being treated with anabolic steroids.
