Although technology has made tremendous breakthroughs for education, it is not the best option for children. The side effects of social media and access to the internet at young ages as well as adults is detrimental. Side effects include; loss of solitude, reliance on technology, easy access to negative information and an undeniable loneliness. We can not allow these children to adapt to these negative attributes caused by phones, tablets, and iPads or we will watch the demise of our future.
When you give a child a device such as a phone, tablet, or iPad, they develop an aversion to being alone. They have the whole world at their finger-tips with easy access to stay in contact. They become consumed by this need to be known and liked. Due to the incessant use of technology and social media the youth have developed this emptiness that can only be filled with updates on Facebook or Instagram. We are social creatures that need to stay in contact, but the most important form is human contact. We substitute and compromise to phone use and limit our contact to be only on a screen. We create the sensation we are missing something crucial and exceed our technology use to counteract the notion. “We build a following on Facebook and wonder to what degree our followings are friends. We re-create ourselves new bodies, homes, jobs, and romances. Yet suddenly, in the half-light of virtual community, we may feel utterly alone” (Turkle). Many people who use a mass amount of social media are too afraid to be themselves and feel as though when they use a screen “you have more time to think about what you’re writing. On the telephone, too much might show”

With the increase of online networking many people isolate themselves from society to remain in their online realm. These networks were created with the intent of bringing people closer together, but sadly defeats that purpose as many of the younger generations use it as their main source form of communication, while minimizing their real world relationships. In the article a “Social Media Causing A ‘Distancing Phenomena’ To Take Place”, psychology professor Krystine Batcho mention the negative impact online networking has on people as she states “The greater fear of what’s perhaps taking place is that kids are not learning how to behave in a face-to-face conversation”(1) and “What you do you in cyberspace is quite different from what you do face-to-face and kids may be losing those important social skills”(1). She further explains this by indicating how many people especially young adults and teenager go online to talk as they find communicating face-to-face difficult. Those individuals that are on the social media apps really do not care what is happening around them at that time when they are on that app because, they are so focused on their social media. It is absolutely outrageous that our societies have come to the point where most people would rather be on social media on their phones, than socializing with the people around them at that given time. Soon social media is a must have in everyone 's life just to stay connected with one another. One day technology will advance far enough to where social media will just blend its way into our life. Once it is in all of our lives it will start to disconnect people, one person at a time.…

Orenstein states, “The expansion of our digital universe Second life, Facebook, Myspace, Twitterhas shifted not only how we spend our time but also how we construct identity” (253). She is explaining that these new social media outlets are causing people to spend time and energy on creating an image of someone that they wished they were instead of putting their true self out there. The future thought of having friends also hints at a future world with little contact and could possibly evolve to a society where…

Social media is a tool to connect families and friends who are further apart to connect and talk to each other. The result wouldn’t be the same for using email or messages to converse close by friends and families. The value of spending time with well-wishers degrade and so does the strength of ties, In “Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted”, Malcolm Gladwell argues that virtual intimacy is not efficient and productive as traditional friendships and relations. The so-called friends on social media are not really friends, the groups on theses platforms are not structured properly and ties on media are fragile. Users accept the friend request to get others information and ideas.…
