In Buddhism, enlightenment is one’s main goal in life but it is not easy to achieve. In Herman Hesse’s novel, Siddhartha is on a quest for enlightenment, and only has one way to reach it. By going through different life experiences on his own, he gets closer to his life goal. Siddhartha and his closest friend, Govinda, are both on a course for eternal peace but they choose different paths of enlightenment to follow.
