Before the quote was said, the narrator described how most people, especially Siddharthas' parents and Govinda,loved and were fascinated with the amount of knowledge he had stored,furthermore; how committed he was to learning. Though, he recieved much love and joy, he was not a pleasure to himself. His desire for knowledge was stronger than others. As the quote mentioned, he understands that his father,other teachers, andthe wise Brahmins have taught him as much as they could but he desires more and would prefer to receive on his own. For this, he decide to become a shramana.
