Focus is one of the many important elements of studying and information does not process well when people are distracted. Scientists say that when people are distracted, the "...ability to focus …show more content…
When a person's brain is off electronic devices, "...fractured thinking and a lack of focus persist," (Richtel 1) due to the amount of time they spend on their device. Fractured thinking can cause memory loss, consequently, possibly causing disastrous events to occur. This just further shows why rewiring the brain in this way is bad. However, the source of the problem is not only the devices, but apps like Google because it "...also [encourages people] to think superficially. It's making [them] shallow" (Carr 1). With all the advertisements Google hosts, people skim through them and begin the path to shallow thinking where deep thought is nowhere to be seen. This is a worrisome problem because at the rate people are hooked to the Internet, millions of people will convert to shallow thinking. Although these are all huge problems, others, who are willing to overlook the cons, may say that the electronic device is …show more content…
Today, "...electronics appear to be the path by which children ... develop emotional bonds, their own identities, and an ability to communicate and work with others" (Healy 1). These skills are useful when meeting new people and are needed to survive in the world. However, people have survived so long without electronics that sometimes these things can be taught by actually going out in the world and talking to people. For some this might be difficult, but for those "...who were better adjusted in their early teens were more likely to use social media in their early twenties, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, or their parent's income" (Healy 1). Being better adjusted makes the transition between at home to the real world easier and smoother. If a better adjusted teen transitioned smoothly into the adult world, it shows that electronics makes life easier. With an easier life, these well adjusted teens and adults are the most likely candidates who would discourage Shut Down Your Screen Week.
Who knows if the Shut Down Your Screens Week will pass, but people should know the negative effect about devices. While devices do have some benefits, some negative things include the fact that they create focus problems, affect students in school, and they rewire people's
