His singularity can be shown through his dialogue with the other characters, “I know she is an irksome brawling scold, if that be all, masters, I hear no harm.” (I. ii. 55-57), and “Now, by the world, It is a lusty wench. I love ten times more that e’er I did. Oh how I long to have some chat with her” (II. i. 153-155). While Katherine is antagonized by the other characters in the play, Petruchio talks to Katherine with adulation. While the other male characters in the play avoid contact and communication with Katherine, Petruchio showers her with blandishments. Katherine’s appearance and personality seem extraneous to him, and his love towards Katherine grows when he discovers her individuality. “Be she as foul as Florentius’ love, and as old as Sibyl and as crust and shrewd as Socrates’ Xanthippe, or a worse, she moves me not, or not remove at least Affection’s edge in me.” (I. ii. 55-59), a quote from the play proves Petruchio’s eccentricity in coherence to other quotes in the play.
