A Hero’s Journey or monomyth is the structure of a story following a character on a journey or quest. The three most significant character development steps are, Crossing the Threshold, Resurrection and Atonement. These three steps will be shown through the movies; ‘Percy Jackson – The Lighting Thief’ and ‘Shrek’.

When he wakes, Percy recalls the event as ‘some crazy dream’ repeatedly saying ‘no, no, no’. A wave of understanding and pain went through Percy’s body and he finally understood the truth which made up the other half of his life. In ‘Shrek’, Shrek goes through Resurrection when he realises, from Donkey, that he and Fiona are made for each. He asks Donkey ‘well what did she say about me’ it is through his sincerity in his voice and body language when saying the phrase that Shrek wants the relationship to happen and is curious as to why the princess didn’t tell him.
