Showing Courage In The Bible

Decent Essays
In the Bible we have many stories of God's people showing courage like the story of David and Goliath where a small little boy throws what I would love to call pebble at a huge giant pickle, oh wait that's veggie tales, sorry I mean a giant human, showing he had the courage to stand in Gods name and fight someone twice his size, amazing right! Talking about David and his wee little pebbles does not compare to anything like what my dear friend Daniel went thought, well for me. Daniel had the most courage in my eyes when he entered that lion's den and spent one whole night! That there is crazy if it was me I would have tried to fight my way out of going into a place full of lions, and if I had to enter the den I would cry and bang at the walls

Odysseus and I have both showed courage in a variety of ways. Odysseus first shows courage when he walked up to the cyclops and said, “Cyclops try some wine. Here’s liquor to wash down your scraps of men” (904). He had to have courage to be able to walk up to the beast who just ate a few of his men. Furthermore, Odysseus shows courage when he sails through the cave with scylla and charybdis saying to his friends “have we never been in danger before this” (934).…

Courage is a value illustrated in Beowulf because warriors are the most respected people in that time. Once killed, a warrior can be paid off with a death price worth much more that that of a peasant’s. All “the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness” (Beowulf 2). Shield was a respected king and warrior because he provided the citizens with the feeling of constant protection. He made the enemies the least of their worries.…

Some people may say no, some may say yes. To me, I see courage as something everyone has the potential to have. You don’t need to be a superhero to demonstrate courage. Courage is the strength you have when you’re faced with pain, danger, and grief. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Holocaust, and The Merchant of Venice, some events took place where people stepped up and were courageous.…

Courage can be defined in a variety of ways; it all depends on what an individual perceives as courageous, and the different aspects of courage they find most important. In the short story “On the Rainy River” Tim O’Brien focuses on the action side of courage. Action meaning the big and small tasks in a person’s life that determine their courageousness. The actions an individual takes when caught in a difficult situation is what defines them as brave. Before Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, Jesus knew his destiny and the terrible fate that lay before him, but he was able to demonstrate moral courage even in the face of people denying that he was the son of God, the Savior, the Messiah.
