The show choir at KHS is split into two groups, Vibrations (Junior Varsity) and Purple Harmony (Varsity). Both groups compete around the state, and sometimes out of it, to face off against other show choirs from around the area. Even the audition process for getting into show choir takes quite a bit of commitment, with four different clinics to go to and then singing and performing in front

The Thundertones as a Social Network The Thundertones have been a central part of my social network during my time at Wheaton College. Thundertones is an a cappella group that pulls its members exclusively from the Wheaton College Men’s Glee Club. Being an elite section of a larger group gives the Thundertones an interesting social network in side of the Men’s Glee Club; however, due to the limitations of this project I have chosen to focus primarily on the social network of the Thundertones itself. I have spent a lot of time with the Thundertones, both inside and outside of rehearsals.…

Some choirs have better sounds than others, and that is just the truth some people have to face. Choirs that have good vowels, dynamics, can sight read, stay in tune, have correct posture, and do not overpower the other signing group in the choir are the most successful choirs. Also, choirs that are in engaged in the music they are about to perform, use of their diaphragms and breathing techniques, as well as being focused while performing. This means that choirs without this criteria are usually less successful, and this is why some choir’s do better than others.…

As the conductor raised his baton, I hastily positioned myself to get ready; planting my bow in its place, I silently tapped the opening chords on my fingerboard as I eyed the conductor for the starting cue. His face glared at us with immense intensity as he pounded the tempo on his chest, and with a wave of his hand, the bombastic fanfare of the trumpets marked the beginning of the concert. Tapping my foot against the wooden floor, I followed the progression of the conductor’s energetic movements. As we played the final cadence of the passage, the violins descended to a delicate tremolo, and the conductor waved in my general direction to begin the greatly anticipated solo. Taking a deep breath, I glided the bow across my strings with an alluring vibrato; I could feel the vibrations from my strings ricocheting inside my instrument.…
