Shoveller Personal Language

Decent Essays
I too found it not clear and didnt catch on until the key message was reveiled. I didnt answer who the audience was because i honestly couldnt decide. I do like your suggestion of high school or postsecondary students taking an english class. I like your observation on Shoveller use of personal language. I never really took note of it, sure I rewcall reading it but I didnt draw my attention.
I agree with you with the writing being more of an emotion piece rather then locially driven.

With America’s unstable health care system, there can be terrible repercussions from citizens being unable to obtain proper treatment. Sick: the Untold Story of America 's Healthcare Crisis-And the People Who Pay the Price by Jonathan Cohn investigates the history and impact America’s healthcare has had on various people around the United States. There are ten stories that showcase how the lack of a decent support system in health insurance can have big consequences on a person’s life. The Lerner Excerpt does fit into the Wallace on Aesthetics of The New Sincerity. The Lerner Excerpt fits into this because the author writes his story as a new rebel, someone who is willing to expose himself and lays everything out there and is not afraid of showing his emotions. This story has three major events that prove that Lerner is writing as a new rebel. The three main events are, the observation of a man at the art museum, the narrator's reaction to Isabel’s story and finally, the connection between Isabel and the narrator. In these main events, we notice emotions being exposed as well as melodramatic events that the characters encountered.…

Communication Analysis Sean Combs’ (Diddy), commencement speech for Howard University’s class of 2014 was able to captivate the audience, which were the graduating seniors of 2014, with his illustrious anecdotes and powerful message about greatness. As a former Howard student Diddy was able to resonate with the graduating class, and the struggles in which they had to go through in order to reach that moment. He has a versatile relationship with the crowd because even though he is a multi-millionaire entrepreneur, he too walked across the yard of Howard’s campus over the course of two years. His references to getting checked into the Harriet Tubman Quadrangle and the lack of food, made many draw similarities to their own Howard experiences. Due to this aspect his words meant…

When I was in ninth grade, my history teacher, Mr. Horne, stopped me after class and handed me a mildly tattered book. “This book will change your mind,” he told me, referencing what I had told him the day before. “You will understand that being the smartest person you know won’t work out well emotionally.” I ended up hooked, in tears, and a completely changed person after reading Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. The movie adaption, Charly, directed by Ralph Nelson, was far less moving.…

KARNSTREET is a gritty, crime drama that centers on two major rival gangs. Their rivalry leads to a vicious gang war. The script does a nice job of showing the violent side of gangsters and their need for control. The stakes are life and death. While there are certainly strengths to the presentation, the script would benefit from more development in the area of structure, pace, and character development, as well as the professional presentation.…

“Greasers can 't walk alone too much or they 'll get jumped, or someone will come by and scream "Greaser!" at them which doesn 't make you feel too hot if you know what I mean. ” ~ The Outsiders, Chapter 1, Page 2. This quote which kicks off the book helps to bring together what the narrator and main character Ponyboy character is as a Greaser. The Greasers are what the East side poor kids of Tulsa, Oklahoma with their slicked back long greased hair and switch blades, are called, kind of like hoodlums who stick up for each other. On the other hand the Socials or how it 's shortened it in the book Socs (it is pronounced So-Shis) are the West side rich kids with fancy cars and lots of free time, which they use to jump greasers.…
