Many people use hospitals for nonurgent conditions because of the 24-hour open- door policy, convenience, and unavailability of primary care providers. The hospital will provide highly trained care with the use of sophisticated facilities for the care of the patient. Patients do not always have access to primary care physicians because they are poor or indigent. However, if they feel that their issue is urgent, they will utilize the hospital emergency department. “Seeking accreditation is voluntary, but Medicare regulations confer deemed status on accredited hospitals, allowing these hospitals to participate in Medicare and Medicaid without having to be certified” (Shi & Singh, 2017). Yes, hospital accreditation is important to me because of the implementation of the access, assessment, and continuity of care standards. Achieving accreditation make a strong statement to the community about an organization’s efforts to provide the highest quality services. It improves risk management and risk reduction thereby helping organize and strengthen the culture of the hospital with safety regulations and efforts deemed status on accredited hospitals for the patient and quality assurance services.
