It is also true that the number of patients treated, served, will also increase, and therefore the supply and demand ratio will be more balanced. With the investment of $2million, bed capacity for the hospital will be increase by 50% i.e. 133 beds (current bed capacity is 89 beds) which exceeds the current bed thus eliminating the bed capacity as the bottleneck. With 133 beds available, around 38 new patients can be accommodated on daily basis with 38 operations on the same day which would increase their operational efficiency. Investment of $2 million can lead to a payback period of the investment of 2-4 years with the current performance. The expansion decision is a very good investment. It gives a very high return to Shouldice hospital.
The options of opening in another location in Canada or US is not recommended as it would dilute the direct oversight.
