Nick Bollettieri's Tennis School in Florida has an amazing reputation as graduates from the school include tennis stars Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Boris Becker, Jim Courier and Andre Agassi, just to name a few. There are countless ways for an individual to ‘go further' even from a younger age with the availability of sports schools, academies, and colleges.
Having mentioned the above, in some cases young athletes between the ages of 14-16 chose to drop school entirely to pursue their dream and push their talents. Education during this stage is something that is often compromised, as less of an importance is placed on the learning of a young athlete. This is sometimes the choice of the player, but sometimes the decision of the parent.
If I use tennis as an example, several athletes that I have come across have decided to continue their education online so they are able to travel to compete in tournaments. This allows them to spend more time for training and improvement. This is something that I personally would not enjoy, as tennis is a very individual sport. When one learns online or stops their education completely, they can become isolated and simple tasks such as communication and meet new people becomes difficult.
