One of the most controversial topics among our society is abortions. This issue has been around for centuries, having people from both sides argue why it is morally wrong or constitutionally accepted. Women should be able to have the choice of receiving abortions due to women’s rights, along with choice, health risks, and sparing the mother and child of pain. First off, women’s rights have been threatened throughout history. Having the choice of whether or when women have children is crucial to being in control of their independence. People who are against abortions claim that an alternative would be adoption. Although, there is an estimated 140 million orphans worldwide, with many of them never getting to experience a home as they grow up. …show more content…
Women who receive abortions are less likely to suffer mental health problems than women denied abortions. A study showed that women who were denied abortions stated that they experienced “less happiness and relief” and “felt more regret and anger” opposed to people that did receive abortions. The same study recorded that 95% of the ladder women stated they “felt it was the right decision” later on in life. Also, tests run by the University of California shows that women who do not receive wanted abortions are more than likely to later become unemployed, receive public welfare, and/or become victims of domestic violence. The same study later showed that as opposed to women who received abortions, those who did not were more likely to stay in an abusive relationship. Contrary to what people argue about, fetuses are unable to feel pain until at least the 26th week of development, which is long after most abortions are performed. Arguments such as “abortion is murder” continuously occur while going against this subject.In Actuallity, abortion is the cease of a pregnancy, not a baby. Meaning that because fetuses and embryos are not “independent, self-determining beings”, fetuses cannot be classified as a person. Therefore, abortion is not
