Women are approximately half of the workforce, but they don’t get the same opportunities as men. They are typically placed into female-dominated jobs. These jobs consist of teaching, nursing, social work, cleaning, and administrative or secretarial positions. A study conducted by the non-profit group, Catalyst, shows that “ Women around the globe are blocked from advancing in their careers because of unequal access to high visibility jobs and international experience”. In 2014, a study showed that a woman makes seventy-nine cents for every dollar a man makes. This is a wage gap of twenty-one cents, because of gender. Women with better credentials than men, are getting paid less. According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, if the current trends continue, women will not have equal pay until 2059. That is in forty-three years. Women work just as hard, as for in some cases, harder than men, and for what? To get paid twenty-one cents less?
