In my experience, I have found that this is the case more often than not in our society. People are constantly looking forward--to the next Monday, the next new gadget, the next promotion, graduation--that they forget to appreciate what they already have and the memories they are making. Theodor Seuss Geisel once said, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” We need to constantly be reminded, through all of our distractions, to truly live in the moment and appreciate what we…

People take for granted the simple things we have in our daily life such as a nice home, parents, food, and safety because we have not experienced life without them. In “Collage Freshman Learn From ‘Enrique’s Journey,’” na interview with NRP’s Lynn Neary, Nazario states, “What I hear a lot from students every day in emails and traveling across the country to campuses is they learn to be more grateful for what they have” (qtd. in Neary). The content states there is a trend of laziness in American culture that the younger generation has grown into. Since the author believes high school and college students to fit the generations norm, it is assumed that the audience is these students. The issue at hand, is consistent littering among Americans. It has come to my concern and attention that recycling should be mandatory in ISA. Americans make more than 200 million tons of garbage each year due to the garbage outburst that is not recycled. I personally believe that recycling should be mandatory in ISA because the EPA system averages out that 75% of the American waste stream of garbage is only 30% recycled which isn’t even half of it. Therefore ISA should go green and have recycle bins which then the recycled items will be processed to a recycling company. One of the reasons recycling should be mandatory is because it will protect wildlife from decreasing the risk of killing an animal from lake to sea, or from forest to rivers.…

Additionally, the beauty that lies in our lives is being taken away by our own kind as we demolish our sacred lands. Rural areas of the world continue to receive wide human popularity for their peacefulness and appeal. Although, humans are not aware that the cars they drive, the air they pollute, and the cities they have built over nature are taking away from the environment that is left. Henry David Thoreau says it best in Where I Lived, and What I Lived For when he says that humans “live meanly, like ants...life is frittered away by detail” (Thoreau 2). Our lives are being absorbed by the idea of modernity, and we are not stopping to appreciate…
