Should We Stop Child Labour? (Opinion Paper)

How would you feel if you ever had to see your 7 year old brother or sister going to work instead of school? In today’s society teenagers or kids usually whine about how much work they did around the house when in reality they only did a bit. They usually don’t think about the kids that are forced in to labouring for many different purposes and cant whine about it because they won’t get there pay or they would get beaten. Have you ever thought why there is so much labouring in many developing countries around the world and why it’s still happening? According to the ILO (International Labour Organization) child labour is the sort of work that children the ages of 5-17 shouldn’t be doing. Due to numerous reasons such as being too young to work, or being put in hazardous or unsuitable circumstances for a person to be working in. Many of these young children work in agriculture, fishing, manufacturing, mining and domestic service. It has been estimated that there are 215 million children working around the world instead of going to school. It refers to work that is mentally, physically, socially and morally hazardous and damaging to children. It interferes with their education by depriving them the chance to go to school, requiring them to leave school prematurely or involving them to attempt to merge school attendance with extremely long and heavy work.
