Sports in the US is a considerably touched upon subject , people arguing which team is better or who's going to win this season, although our military is more of a need and should be . It’s true that quite a few people are against war and don’t support our military whatsoever, but should still understand that without it we wouldn't be a free country and also wouldn't be able to defend against potential threats or help our allies, so shouldn't we spend more on defence than entertainment? When comparing how much we spend on these things, it's quite a difference in the military's favor. (In 2015, the US will have a declared military and defense budget of $601 billion. From reference.com) although consider how much a lone player makes a year, (On average, NBA players make $5.15 million, MLB players make $3.2 million, NHL players make $2.4 million, and NFL players make $1.9 million per year, according to Forbes. From businessinsider.com) then consider how many players there is per team then how many teams. It can be argued whether a player should make that much or not, but to be payed that much just for playing a sport is a bit absurd. While yes, games do bring in money into the from tickets purchased and merchandise then goes into the states, but if we were to take a bit from the players large pay and put it into military use then we could gain better benefits than just entertainment for the masses, more breakthroughs in science and better living could be achieved if we were to spend more money on our military than sports. The benefits of national sports are entertainment, income for the players, and the income from the games go into the government and it is enjoyable and apart of many people's past times but it wouldn't hurt to take a little from the player’s pay and they more than likely they wouldn't mind too much

Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. As Rebecca Zissou states in the article, “Fair Play: Should College Athletes Get Paid?” "Many top players receive tuition, books, tutoring, housing, meals, clothing, elite coaching, medical care, travel expenses, and career counseling. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

If people started to get paid to play they will start playing only for the money and not because of their love of the sport that they are playing. If they started getting paid the college and university athletic departments would turn into enterprises. In the article, “Cracking the Cartel,” Theodore Ross’ said “To me, the tragedy at the heart of college sports is college sports. Paying the players would only ensure the continuation of athletic programs as currently constructed. Everything would remain as it is, with the freakishly lucrative enterprises that are Division I college football and basketball nestled awkwardly within our higher education system.”…

Much of the problem lies in the military contacts—their argument is that if even 50 million dollars was cut countless jobs would be lost. Roxana explained to us though that sometimes these contracts are with companies or for products that are wasteful. Because if we had to cut back on military expenses we would have to get rid of some stuff, and give it to people that might in the future turn their backs on us or such. In military expenses we should increase the amount of money soldiers make a year, and also put more money towards special force training of the elite soldiers. We also shouldn’t send troops to other countries over little things like a few Americans getting their heads cut off, we should only think about going to fight against other countries if it effects us a whole lot or one of our good allies a whole…

If we don’t have enough money to give soldiers today $200,000 then we will surely not have enough to pay the thousands of people who will join the military for the money. The government will also have to buy extra guns and supplies for the new people joining. The government spends $153.531 billion on the soldiers according to datab.us/i/military%20budget%20of%20the%20United%20States. If a lot more people joined the military that amount would at least double. As you can see, paying military soldiers as much as athletes would be as unthinkable as revising the laws of gravity.…
