Since Colorado legalized marijuana the revenue in the state has been expanding. “It is generating nearly $60 million in revenue for the state in the first year of legalization with that figure projected to grow to around $100 million dollars over more than five years” (Ferner). If every state is legalizing marijuana the revenue could bring $500 million dollars or more per year. “A federal tax of $23 per pound of product, similar to the federal tax on tobacco, could generate $500 million per year” (Ekins). All the money that marijuana makes will go to schools that need extra help. “The first $40 million goes to a state program called BEST, which awards grants to local school districts to build and improve school facilities” (Tegna).
