However, hunting for the big-five (elephants, rhinos, leopards, lions, and Cape buffalo) in the African subcontinent has raised many moral and ethical controversies, with hunted animals such as Cecil the Lion being named in the arguments of people opposing hunting. Most biologists estimate that the population of big-game species have decreased up to 60% in the 35 years between 1970 and 2005. Hunters such as the American client hunting for elephants in Nyae Nyae, however, argue that by paying for expensive legal hunts of these animals, they are supporting the protection of their habitat and their species.
