Should we have recess in middle school?
Have you ever wondered why we don’t have recess in middle or high school? I was asking the same question and decided to look more into this topic. After seeing both sides of people’s perspectives, I believe that we should not have recess in middle school for many reasons, including it doesn't help with their education, it’s a waste of time, and they do just fine without it.
First of all, having recess doesn't help their education in any way. Proof of this is that in order to include recess, you would need to cut down time in class where you're actually learning. That causes them to not learn as much on that topic, which could affect their job in the future. Now people may say that recess helps teach them about health and exercise. However, gym is already a required class that teaches them more about these topics than recces did. In gym you do different exercises, and discussions on health, so not getting enough education on the topic wouldn’t have to be a concern. …show more content…
People say that recess is needed for breaks throughout our day and that it’s good for us, however, we have already come up with a solution to that problem. In middle school, at the end of every period we have passing, our passing period is a 4 minute break from our classes so we can get to our next class. This is a good time to be able to take a break and talk to your friends. Also, middle schoolers have lunch and at the last 15 minutes of their lunch time they get to go outside, or to the library. All of these breaks throughout the day are enough and we don’t need to shorten our education time to have
