Scanning the clouds of Los Angeles, I drive my coupé around the city. The sky is blue, with a slight orange tint, alongside the dancing clouds floating around.
Looking at my surroundings, I found so many uniform posters and flags sticking to the sidewalk. Squinting my eyes, I can see what it says: “Do you realize you don’t even need real foods? The only way to get healthy!” Ah commercials, I think.
Ever since I existed in the world, foods have been scarce to mankind. What we eat everyday is just three pale, white densely packed capsules – packed in tiny disposable tubes – which says can satisfy the needs of a human being for a day. To name a few, magnesium, potassium, calcium, vitamin A to Z, nutrients are in that tiny capsule. …show more content…
Examining the details, I could see her face radiate a stare of emptiness. Her body is thin and vulnerable; bones start peeking up, and her flesh start to vanish. Staring at it long enough, I find myself virtually attached to the girl until I let my eyes secrete its liquid – a crystal clear one.
“But, who cares?” they said. “As long as my family and I are ensured – why should we give a damn?” Yeah, that is what we are, egoistic, self-centered mankind.
Human?
My purpose in life? Well, that is a hard question. Right now robots are maneuvering over the world – most of them are used to running industries. They are the essential key of the production. Additionally, labor like laundry, food capsule delivery, or even a public transportation driver are also a robot’s duty. Humans therefore can enjoy life in simplicity and leisure, since they comprise a limitless workforce. As monotonous as it might be, people do have their daily routines. They begin the morning by taking a capsule for breakfast. As kids, schooling is mandatory; purposely just to make them do math. On the other hand, adults work from dawn until evening, to enable them to afford the living cost. Most of them work in the research department, for the government, or engineer; some of them are unlucky enough to work only with …show more content…
Distributing the capsules, nearly everyone who received it has glint of confusion in their faces, before they muttered a short “thank you”. Looking at the pills in awe and astonishment, they consume it; filling up their empty belly. Nearly everyone took the pills, besides a grey haired man; wrinkled, wearing an old hat and scruffy romper.
Eyes fill with fierce and rage as he says, “This is not food, hunger might be satisfied, but your soul remains empty.” He then takes out a box filled with things I have never seen. A viscous liquid colored by red, few green particles, and bits of lump is present before me. “It is a tomato soup, taste what real food taste like,” he said. Giving me a small brown object, he asks me to dip it into the soup, and insert them in my mouth. It tastes magical – the warmth and rich flavors tingles my tongue, takes me to whole new world. After all my life I survived with tasteless food capsules, I could not restrain myself from eating this pleasant food.
For he to have live so little in this world, but actually own something far richer than everyone else, astound me. Despite living a minimal life, he still shared with me a bowl of soup. Wealthy is a matter of perspective. I might be prosperous, but I am starving of living
