Conducting Business in Australia: Good or Bad? How many people have wanted to conduct a business transaction in Australia but did not want to spend the time researching the country? Many people want to visit Australia at least once whether it is for business or for pleasure because it is a great country. In relations of the simplicity of doing business, Australia is placed at number three in the world ranking of economic freedom, following only the island states of Hong Kong and Singapore, Andrew Robb tells the US-Australia dialogue. The Heritage Foundation has once again named Australia as the third freest nation in which to do business, placing them above New Zealand and Taiwan in fourth and fifth place (Martin & O’Malley 2014). History The Great Depression was an important historical event that had a major impact on Australia. Even before the stock market crash, unemployment was at ten percent, and after the crash it doubled to twenty-one percent. The Great Depression's effect on Australian society was upsetting. Without work and a solid income countless people lost their homes and were required to live in crude houses with poor heating and cleanliness. During the Great Depression, many Australians lost assurance in the skills of their government representatives. In Australia's quickly developing new capital city of Canberra, building structure came to a sudden halt, leaving a population of seven thousand wondering what was going to happen next. Workers were laid off and the group responsible for developing the city, the Federal Capital Commission, was eliminated. The Sydney Harbour Bridge was a great achievement that started in April 1923 and kept several Australians employed during the Depression until
