Should We Care About A Few Cats When There's So Much Human Suffering?

This couple’s story about their leopard “daughter” gives just the right amount of sad, heartwarming feelings, while at the same time teaching you about a very serious problem.
Growing up, I loved animals of all kinds. I would, and still do, sit and watch Animal Planet or
Nat Geo Wild for hours. I was especially interested in exotic animals. Most of these exotic animals being endangered left me very sentimental. I found myself seeking out more and more stories like these. This talk begins asking, “Why should we care about a few cats when there’s so much human suffering?” Beverly and Dereck are a married couple who have been living in
Africa filming big cats for more than ten years. By the end of the talk, the Joubert’s convince us to do just

Legadema. As soon as they saw Legadema they decided to move in and study her throughout her life. Now that’s what I call dedication to a cause.
They truly fell in love with Legadema and I believe vice versa. I couldn’t explain this any better without their story of how she got her name. One night in a terrible storm while
Legadema’s mother was out hunting, she got scared by a bolt of lightning hitting her tree. As any child would, she sought shelter and maybe comfort. She came very close to Beverly and Dereck and just sat next to them. They showed the little leopard sitting with her back to them. After that they called her Legadema which apparently means light from the sky.
The “light from the sky” turned out to be a true character. When they talk about how
Legadema trusted them enough to enter their vehicle, I fell in love with her. They showed this precious little cub, now a teenager, curiously creeping in; it was adorable. They later talked about
Legadema’s first hunt. They showed her with a fresh kill, a baboon almost as big as she was. I was afraid to continue watching when I saw the baby baboon attached to its dead

I think the most evil villain between the stories, Tell-Tale Heart and the Landlady, is the landlady. I think that she is the most evil villain because, she says in the story, “I am a teeny- weeny bit choosy and particular--- if you know what I mean.” And, when the landlady and Mr. Weaver were walking up the stairs, this is what happened, “She was halfway up the stairs, and she paused with one hand on the stair rail, turning her head and smiling down at him with pale lips. “Like you,” she added, and her blue eyes traveled slowly all the way down the length of Billy’s body, to his feet, and then up again.”…

A trip to the zoo is always enlightening as no matter how long ago it was we last visited we can always forget something about the animals that live this world with us. Going to the zoo can remind us that we are creatures just like these animals, but also remind us that we are so much more than just animals. Our lives on the surface seem so much more complex than the primates around us, however if we could take the time to observe the lives and the emotions of the animals around us then maybe we can learn who they are, and maybe who we are. The primate that I picked was a mongooses lemur, native to Madagascar.…
