Why We Shouldn T Violent Video Games Be Banned

Although previous research has shown that violent video games have a potential to stimulate violent behavior, violent video games played online are more likely to inspire aggression than those played offline. Jack Hollingdale, a psychologist from the University of Sussex, and Tobias Greitemeyer, a psychologist from the University of Innsbruck, investigated four groups of people that played the violent video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare either online or offline and the neutral video game LittleBigPlanet 2 either online or offline. The researchers did not initially tell people the real purpose of the experiment, but told them that it was just marketing analyses. For example, shooting games train survival instincts, while games with superheroes inspire strength and teach people to control different situations. Actually, people should not blame violent video games as the main and only reason for the real-life violence and aggression; instead, the only real issue that people should reproach is their own aspirations to take from violent video games only a negative. Thus, violent video games should not be banned because they give people an opportunity to realize unconscious needs that are necessary for their psychological health, relieve daily stress, and help people to securely display their violent …show more content…
Nonetheless, people should not forget that violence has a place in everything that surrounds them and is shown more openly, and more vividly, in movies, television, magazines, and even in literature. A duration, vigor, and measure of violence and cruelty influence in violent video games on children can vary from individual to individual; thus, violent video games should not be prohibited because each of them teach people to apply critical, logic, and strategic thinking to day-to-day activity, to reflect on different situations, to draw conclusions based on these reflections, and to achieve those tasks that people set for themselves. However, to reduce a potential risk of exposure to video game violence, people should handle the quality and quantity of violent video games consumed by their children, to forbid playing low-standard video games with super simple plots and story lines (because such games do not develop any skills and result in player’s degradation), to monitor the time that child spend playing violent video games, and to provide an easy access to mental health

Violent role-playing games are a hotly disputed subject within the close-knit communities of parents, educators, and video game designers. Parents argue that they are degrading for their children and educators tend to lean towards the angle that their students do not benefit from the influence of games with violence in them, or ban elementary-school level children from pretending to fight during recess because of, they claim, safety reasons. However, these types of games are educational and beneficial for children, especially if in future life they plan to serve in the military or in any high-ranked government or business position (for the same reasons that businessmen often read Sun Tzu 's The Art of War). They can teach valuable life lessons, they provide an outlet for violent thoughts and feelings, are entertaining, and can stop people from committing real homicides.…

I was stuck behind the remains of a once popular store that was now a smoking mound of rubble. That’s when I noticed the body of my best friend, lying motionless in the street. I thought he was dead, until I could hear a faint cry for help between the shots of gunfire that seemed endless. Social scientists started studying and debating the effects of video game violence in the 1980’s. With technology advancing in great strides, video games today are more realistic and bloodier than ever before. New research does show that playing games can and does stir hostile urges and mildly aggressive behavior in the short-term. Yet it is still unclear, over longer periods, video games increase the likelihood that a person will commit murder or assault.…

Gaming is not the way people should spend most of their free time. Free time should be spent doing activities that will grow one’s mind, not alter one’s personality. The need and demand for bloodier, more violent games has continuously increased. As a result, newer video games try to outdo their older versions by increasing the gore and violence factor. Violence in video games only encourages and expresses that violence is the answer to every situation that occurs. Violent video games lead to aggressive behavior in those who play the games. Video games can alter the mentality and actions of a player. This does lead people to engage in more serious levels of criminal behavior or activities. Levels of violence within videogames causes players to become desensitized against violent real life situations. As video game play increases, players do not see the effect that the game has on their response to violent situations around them. Just because the video game is rated M for mature, does not mean an eight year old or even an eighteen year old is mature enough to play that particular game. Even adults can have their thought process affected by violent video games. Violence in video games only encourages and expresses that violence is the answer to every situation that the player encounters. The newer video games that are being produced should not influence people to engage in criminal or violent activity, but rather…

Violent video games do not affect people in negative ways. Recently many people have been doing tests to see if video games are making people, mainly teenagers, act out in more violent ways. When video games affect one’s behavior, it is called “priming”. Although video games have become more violent over the years, video games do not make teenagers act out more cruelty because data collected from tests show no change, some psychologists believe it actually reduces poor decisions, and today almost all young males are playing video games yet they are not all acting out.…

One of the most mentioned issues regarding the debate around video games is that they heighten aggression. While some studies suggest an argument that violent video games cause increased violent behaviours, individuals, as well as some media outlets often, fail to see that this "heightened aggression" is often merely frustration at the game itself. One can easily picture the scene of an angered teenager screaming at the TV in their room due to a failed level, quest or mission or even the death of their character as if they were cut off whilst driving by a speeding heap of metal that narrowly misses their own. While many teens experience frustration in daily life and video games can serve as an outlet for that frustration or inadvertently amplify it, there is not a direct correlation between violent crime and playing violent video games - merely heightened aggression, such as moving less politely to get on a crowded train, or cutting someone off in traffic; were such a connection to exist the rate of violent crime should logically have skyrocketed since the advent of video games as popular media.…
