Why can some video games be considered art?

In this paper, I will be discussing that video games can be considered art. I believe that Grant Travinor view of considering video games as art is correct. The truth is that video games can be considered a type of art. I support this conclusion with two principle reasons: video games are an extension of what art is. And everyone's perspective of art in a video game differs. My belief is that video games can be a part of the definition of art. A video game can be described as a game that is played electronically. It contains attracting graphics, and an interesting story. Gameplay allows the video game to be unique and innovative for the player. The graphics that are used in the game let the gamer explore different types of art. People of all ages enjoy playing video games. As a gamer, I enjoy seeing how real the game is. I believe that it is very difficult for one to define art, or what makes something art. Everyone has a different

How people see it, and identify it in their own perspectives. According to Travinor, a cluster proves that artwork has large sections of sets; at times, some of them may be missing (Page 3). The painting of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci is an example that’s considered art. If anyone asked me if it was art, it would be strange for me to say that it wasn’t. Most people would believe that the media plays a big part of what the meaning of art is (Page 3). “Perhaps this is the point of such definitions: art may not have any one essential property, rather it may be comprised of a collection of properties that overlap in instances.” (Page 3) Travinor explains that art contains more than one definition; every person sees these kinds of theories

Art has played an important role in human culture for ages; even before the term “art” exists. In the essay “The Trouble with (the Term) Art”, Carolyn Dean questions about the universal definition of “art”, and examines “the consequences of identifying art in societies where such a concept did or does not exist” (p. 26). As the title of the article suggests, the term “art” provokes many discussions and questions. Although we have known the term “art” probably since we are in kindergarten, many of us neglect the profoundness of this simple term. Dean starts off by pointing out that “art” is an ambiguous term because of the differences in people’s aesthetic.…

Prior to the turn of the millennium, video games were practically spat upon by those in “high-art” circles. Seen as mindless time killers, barely worth a mention, they were isolated from discussion for the better part of a quarter century. However, as years passed and technology evolved, the medium as a whole evolved with it. Development tools became more accessible to the masses, providing any person with an idea to tell a story that pushes the boundaries of the medium and of art itself. Despite these clear evolutions, there are still vocal societies that condemn calling a video game ‘art’.…

There are many different things that have to do with video game design including art, music, computer programming and playing games of course. When people think about video games they think about how hard it is or how cool that level was, but there is a whole lot more that goes along with games. The traditional view of art has changed over time just as most things have. Naturally, the act of perception has differed opinions on what society considers as art. Dance, paintings, photography, drawings, music, literature, and sculpting, are what comes to mind when contemplating the aspects of art. The limitation to defining a word so opinionated leaves out room for self-expression. The traditional ideas of what is considered art should be broadened; granted, although not tangible, art can be seen through ambitions, emotions, and expression through appearances when not limited to the customary definition.…
