Decent Essays
Video games do or have everything that is required to be considered a sport yet they are not considered one.
Chess is a sport so why can’t videogames be considered a sport. Chess is labeled a sport because you have to use your mind to think of different ways to counter your opponent’s attempts to take out your king. In a video game scenario you have to analysis a screen, pick different routes to take to flank or outsmart your opponent. Video games require you to counter your opponent’s moves to get your job done. Another example is that in chess you can play different types of ways. In chess you can defend or you can attack. In a video game scenario you can defend you can attack but depending on the opponent’s play style you have to come out of your comfort zone to win. Chess and video games are both games why is one considered a sport and the other not.

All you do in video games are sit in your chair and look at a screen and press buttons. A sport should require you to do some type of physical activity every day. Like in baseball you have to run the bases, in football you have to run the ball down the field or you have to block the opposing team which requires actual physical strength and physical activity. Sports should require physical activity to be a sport. Another reason video games should not be a sport is because video games do not require skill or practice to be good at them. Anyone can sit in front of a tv or computer screen and push buttons. Video games do not require practice or skill to play. Half the time you play video games it is pure luck. Video games do not require skill to play and anyone can sit in front of a screen for hours to
