In the United States of America today there seems to be this expectation that one must go to college or they are considered unsuccessful and looked down upon. There are numerous reasons I believe college is not for everyone. Every person is unique, school may not be there thing, and in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with a person going directly into the work force after high school. Also college degrees are becoming worth less and less as more people attend college and end up in careers that have nothing to do with their degree or dropping out which is ultimately wasting their own and the government’s money. A majority of kids chose to go away to college for the “social aspect” so they say, which we know just means partying and drinking.…

As Professor Hanushek said, “As we have larger proportions attending college, we are undoubtedly dipping down further in the preparation of students for college” (Porter). The stress of attending college is not only from study, but also from living on campus. After graduating from high school, students get total independence in their life. You can find lots of fun out of class, but you shouldn’t spend too much time in having fun with your friends. You also need to control your personal independence, and make up your timetable, so that you will have enough time to study.…

One way I can get students to read the textbook more is through social motivations. Using social motivation to get students to read their textbooks will be extremely useful in my eighth grade classes. I can have my students read sections and become experts on the section and then teach their classmates what was important, after each section has been taught they class will then have to take an assessment over the information, this will ensure they take the time serious and focus on their reading. These ideas of collaboration are unique in the fact that they…

A long process that majority of the people had wished they had finished sooner in their lives, but failed to do so due to them taking time off before going back to school. Getting a job out in the world can be both easy and difficult, but it is mostly extremely competitive, especially at universities. Usually jobs like to have people who are experienced but then again, jobs also want people who are young and quick, and who have all their education requirements dealt with as well. Taking a year off after graduating just makes the road to a successful future become longer than it already it. So why waste time by taking a year off when a student could to college right after graduating and achieve their goals in life faster?…

On-line is better for students with busy lives and good time management. Traditional classes are more for student’s right out of high school and have the ability to go to a class at the assigned time. The best option for me is to stay with traditional learning because being able to ask a professor a question right away is very helpful for me. Another reason it would work for me is I like being able to work with other student and get help from them. Also I like the fact that professors will remind me of assignments due and exams coming up.…

This was an exercise to expand the student’s writing skills and this also gives the parents an idea of what their children are doing at school each day. Both Trudeau and Reeves believe that even though students attend class, some of them do not put in the additional time and effort to make the class beneficial for them. Some of these points being that some college students do not read outside of class to know what will be talked about or reviewed during the next class period. I believe many students who do not attend class and are tardy because they care could care less if they go to college and earn a degree. I think the majority of students are expected to go to college from their parents, relatives, and other people in their community when all they really want to do is have fun, make new friends, and make their own decisions without being told what to do. Some of these students who have been told what they can and cannot do throughout their lives are the students who rebel the most in college.…

I feel that the teacher has a lot to learn from the students such as the type of learners they have in their classroom and look for ideas to address all the students. Teachers will learn from the students when they assign a project/test and the teachers will see how the students do. The teachers will learn how they did presenting the material and will help the teacher not do the same mistake. When teaching each other all of them can grow as person since they learn new ideas from the other person. I feel that having this idea with the students will be helpful when it comes to teaching since it gives the students a voice.…

In contrast, college may sometimes seem as validation for most. Students are only applying because it is what everyone around them is doing or because their parents would not see it any other way. The question of whether or not go to college straight after high school isn’t even an option to many students because of that sole fact of following the steps of life that we have all constructed for ourselves. Many should consider breaking this cycle by taking a gap year or two. A gap year is exactly what students may need, not only for a break from the books, but to be faced with…

    2. I would use Serena Browns Textbook Connection in my classroom, which is creating a student portfolio. I chose this connection because it is a long term record of student progress and it is an exciting way for students to review their work and for teachers to assess the class. This is also a great way for ELL students to express their creativity through projects, rather than papers and speaking in class. 3.…
