Question: Should unions be banned in today’s modern day economy? In today’s economy, unions are unnecessary and a problem/inconvenience/ something else. With the current government labor laws that already protect the workers from mistreatment and harassment, unions serve no further purpose. If they aren’t banned, prices will continue to slowly increase and finding a decent job will become even more difficult. Prohibiting unions will prevent strikes, lower costs, and stop the decrease in competition with other manufacturing countries. Two hundred years ago, unions served a great purpose: to protect the working people. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, laborers were treated unfairly. They were paid an insignificant wage, forced to work in harsh working conditions, and given unreasonable working hours that sometimes stretched to 12 hours for certain jobs. In the late 1800s, the laborers began to realize how unfairly they were being treated. They began to form unions, to stand up against the misconduct of their overseers. They went on strike and demanded higher pay, more suitable working hours, and fair rights that the workers deserved. Because of these unions, laws were made to improve their environment, and are the basis of many labor related laws

By teaching at a school for a certain number of years, the school is able to grant the teacher tenure- ensuring the teacher their job permanently. Though in some cases this is beneficial to the educator as well as the school, often times it leads to lazy, undeserving teachers who then take advantage of their tenure at the expense of the students. If the school decides to try and fire them after giving tenure, the teachers union is able to strike or go to further measures to keep the teacher from being fired. This only leads to unhappy and uneducated students as well as a negligent, but financially stable
