Julissa Arce came from an unassuming background to a highly ranked employee at Goldman Sachs. Her story started in San Antonio where she went to a Catholic school. She eventually got placed in the honors track. However, many people did not like that she was originally from Mexico. One classmate had even asked how a Mexican could possibly keep up. She went to college and majored in finance. She worked her way to the ranks and eventually became a director at Merrill Lynch. While she was working her way through the ranks, tragedy struck. Her father was dying in updated on his father’s condition from her family. She could not go back to Mexico to comfort her father because she was undocumented. Most people think that undocumentedillegal immigrants waste taxpayer money via benefits such as food stamps and healthcare. However, studies show that they actually contribute to the tax coffers. According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, undocumented immigrants paid around $10.6 billion in state and local taxes(cited in Satana). Also, most undocumented immigrants are ineligible for most benefits such as food stamps. According to Tin Wise, the Author of Great White Hoax: Responding to the Politics of White Nationalism, “undocumented workers and their families are not eligible for cash welfare or food stamps.. They are only eligible for emergency medical assistance, prenatal care and educational benefits,”(Wise 28). These two factors causes undocumented immigrant to actually increase the amount of money the government has. These taxes go into things such as Social Security. They also increase the amount of money other people earn. According to the New York times, undocumented immigrants increased workers pay in skilled labor by 10 percent from 1990 to 2007(Davidson). Mexico, which many people point out is the main culprit for undocumented immigrant, is a horrible place to live. Many people there are suffering from, drugs, crime and corruption. Many of them do not like their government, the current president of Mexico, Peña Nieto has a low approval rating of 12%(Argen). Unlike when most people saying that they will move to Canada if the president they want is not elected, most mexican citizens think that Peña may be corrupt They do not want to move only because of a bad President, but they also are extremely poor. Around 46.2% of mexicans or below the poverty level. This, in combination with the Mexican peso’s decline, causes many Mexican to be forced out to find work out of the country. This is just to provide them with enough money to not be in poverty. Ultimately, if anyone would do the same thing in there situation then, why should they be punished for something anyone would do if they were in the same
