Twelfth Night Opinion Essay
Many people argue that Twelfth Night is a play that shouldn’t be taught in schools. Although Twelfth Night should stay as a teaching guide to grade nine students. The morals, English skills and humor taught in the book can help students not only in school academically, but also in real life situations. In this day and age many adolescents do not know what the word loyalty means nor do they know how to demonstrate it. However by reading Twelfth Night students can grow to understand what loyalty means portrayed through the characters. An example is the loyalty that Antonio shows to Sebastian, when he is willing to fight for who he assumes is Sebastian. Most teenagers could learn from this example. A second illustration of loyalty showed through the book is between Viola and Duke Orsino. Even though Viola loves Duke, and Duke loved Olivia, Viola stayed loyal as a servant. A final example of how Twelfth Night shows loyalty is between the Captain and Viola. First he saves her from the shipwreck, then he agrees to assist her plan of dressing up and becoming a man. Many of the words found though out the text are unfamiliar to students, but by understanding what these words mean can drastically improve and change the way students speak and write- for the better of course. How can students find what these words mean? By the glossary located at the side of each page, summarizing the scene and explaining the comtext of the difficult words to readers. This glossary can also prepare srudents for tests given to them. By understanding the words predominantly through the text can assist students when comparing and explaining what a certain line or scene in Twelfth Night means or the reason behind the characters saying that specific
