Barack Obama’s Obama-era plan, was recently threatened by Trumps attempt to ban transgenders from the military. The Obama-era plan allowed transgenders to serve in the armed forces, but was put to a halt by President Trump (Diamond). Trump’s actions show a practice of discrimination. Cisgenders and transgenders should have the same rights, which they are given in the constitution. Although the current president of the United States differs in opinion, because of the law of protection in the 14th amendment, transgenders having the same abilities of cisgenders, and to avoid discrimination, transgenders should be openly allowed to enlist in the military alongside cisgenders. Donald Trump’s concern with transgenders in the military is said to be from their medical care expenses. Although the author of Rand’s study stated that in the most likely case, they would expect a .13- percent increase of healthcare costs (Ingraham).

This should protect the career of all people willing to fight for our country, and should not exclude any for their sexuality.
