Should The Unluckiest Generation: What Will Become Of Millennials?

The question of what’s wrong with the new generation comes up quite often in this age. Well this may seem like a matter of opinion in most aspects, economically, research has shown that the new generation just isn’t pulling their weight as much as their ancestors did. What I mean by new generation is generation born between the early 1980s and late 1990s. This generation is commonly referred to as generation y or the millennials. Research has shown that due to poor economy that this generation just doesn’t want to buy houses or cars. This is terrible for the economy because usually half of a families spending usually goes towards housing and transportation. After college millennials often are unable to find jobs leaving them in crippling debt. …show more content…
The article The Unluckiest Generation: What Will Become of Millennials? Explains that, “Generation Y is the most educated in American history, but its education came at a price. Average debt for graduates of public universities doubled between 1996 and 2006.” This means that millennials are just getting poorer and poorer because of crippling debts and no way to pay them. When making the decision to go to college, millennials believed that there would be jobs up for grabs afterwards. The reason that the new generation is unable to find jobs is because technology makes it so much easier to replace jobs. The article 10 Reasons Millennials Are the Screwed Generation explains that the time millennials were graduating high school there was a shortage of jobs and going to college was an expensive choice young people made in order to try to better their lives. In turn this did not better their lives because even after college they did not automatically have jobs. Many millennials with BA degrees and even master degrees are still working for minimum wage or very low paying jobs because of the lack of job openings.
