The increased security to the public must start at airports. Our air transport system has gone through many changes since 9/11, but it is not completely able to prevent terrorist attacks completely. The United States Air Security, whether it is commercial or private planes, is no better than the security the airports have. This is probably the biggest hole in that specific security. Besides our security for airports, food has been another target for terrorists. After 9/11 food has become a big worry for our country because it was a big focal point for terroristic acts (Taylor, Eric R). “In November 2003, a government panel investigated food supply security and found that few safeguards were in place to guard against terrorists attacks” ( Taylor, Eric R). The cost of security for these prevention acts has put the nation in some debt. The war on terrorism has been very expensive, which surprises no one. Since 2001, the government has laid out money to keep our homeland safe from violent extremists (Bovard, James).
Aside from the war being expensive, the government has been making deals with and sending weapons to Iran, even before 9/11. “ In the summer of 1985, even before Reagan established the Vice President's task force on combating terrorism, the president authorized the shipment of hawk missiles to Iran”( Kronenwetter , Michael). Even though these missiles were sent, they did not make many precautions to air and building security. Since the 1970's, the country has improved security more and more through the years.. Even though our country was not what it is like today, they have made steps in the right
