The minimum wage, as its name implies, should be the minimum amount of money paid to a full-time worker to provide the ability to live. The government is responsible for keeping the economy going and setting the minimum wage allows for all full-time workers to at least have a chance to spend money. It is within reason to expect that a significant raise in the minimum wage would decrease job offers because of expenses to proprietors. However, the money lost in potential customers is already impacting potential profit. Increasing the minimum wage means every full-time worker in the area affected will have more money to spend, meaning every company will have more customers, thus increasing sales. Currently, in New Jersey, the minimum wage is not a living wage because the cost of living in New Jersey is estimated to be around 28,000 dollars whereas working full time on the minimum wage only provides 17,000
