The one only ones who benefit from this is the Mayor and the people who have already received the contracts. …show more content…
In addition, the Mayor approving contracts just because he gets free stuff is egotistical because a mayor is elected to better the city. Therefore, if the Mayor is approving city contracts only because he is getting free stuff then he does not have the city’s best interest. Locke would agree that the Mayor is self-centered because he states that “…self-interest drives everyone” (Living Ethically through a Social Contract). However, Locke also believes that one would give up these for the common good. Since the Mayor is not giving them up and only looking out for what best for him and not everyone, Locke would state that he should be removed from his position as Mayor because of a breach of the social

As stated by Locke, “To understand political power aright, and derive it from its original, we must consider what estate all men are naturally in, and this is, a state of perfect freedom to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and persons as they think fit, within the bounds of the law of Nature, without asking leave or depending upon the will of any other man” (Roots of Wisdom Pg. 365). Consequently, Locke believed that citizen should organize to protect their natural rights, to ensure that these right are not being abused by people of power or the government. From the beginning to the end, Locke consistently repeats how the government and rulers make their decisions. They decide the outcome based on whether it’s beneficiary or not for the greater good. So, when you think about it they’re using Aristotle’s form of moral standards to make a decision whether it helps people out or not. They’re essentially taking the time to understand people’s feelings, opinions, and weighing the options to make the correct decision for the community. In conclusion, Aristotle would make a very strong convincing argument that proves why virtuous people should lead over property owners.…
