The short comings of the hobbit For our banned book projects i have decided to do J.R.R Tolkien "The Hobbit." It is a classic fantasy novel loved by all, but maybe not by a few religious people. A story of a Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, is what this story is centered upon however not everyone likes stories like that. After examining the story and all it has to hold I have seen why it has been banned; Religious reasons, smoking, and non popular language. I believe that these are the causes of the banning. For our first reason, religion is an active part of banned books being banned. From an article that I have found it states; "The other, most popular, reasons behind censorship attempts is that some find it 'irreligious'."
