    v. State of Florida. I chose to go with the minority opinion, there are many reasons as to why a minor would be out past 11 p.m. From many past experiences, I can recall times when I had to errands. There are many reasons as to why a minor would be out during that time, such as family emergency, last minute errands, or even school projects with a friend. A curfew time should not be set by the law; this is more of a personal family problem that each family can solve by themselves. I believe that a curfew should be set by the guardian of the…

Teens shouldn’t be affect with these possibilities of not being in an activity because the later changes. There has been a non-scientific survey that has reported 50 percent of parent that have agree or are undecided with the new time changes and 60 percent of staff agreed with the change. I believe that parents think it’s right for their children to start later or earlier because of the evidence that they have been provided about their children academic improvement. Staff had worked in school with the children and they might also believe it is right because it can change their school education but they don’t understand that it can affect the different schools because it will not be the same times for all…

With a maturing mind, it is possible to find better ways to make it think and act better. For example, intensive psychiatric help. This could drastically change the behavior and thinking process of the minor and could bring about a different person. This is what our rights try to avoid us going through. A minor deserves to understand and pay for his actions after it has been explained from a superior being and making the minor understand.…

Societal norms have changed throughout history. Through the early 1900s mothers stayed home with their children to nurture, teach, and correct them. Overtime there has been a shift from women staying home to entering the workforce and bringing income in for the household. This occurs in all types of families. Broken homes may have a single provider earning income or two parental figures working full-time.…

One cannot deny these adult jails contain cold criminals. These people are ruthless and will not just stop because a sixteen year old is their cell mate. As stated early, minors in adult jails are at a higher risk for being assaulted than any other prisoner, simply because the minor cannot defend him or herself (McCrea). However, minors who commit foul crimes should not be treated differently. “The crime that a 16-teen-year old commits is no different than that of a 60-year-old” (Estudillo).…

There are differences between minors and adults, “Children are different from adults. The Supreme Court has in other contexts concluded that children cannot be viewed as "mini adults" under the law because they lack the maturity and foresight to understand the full consequences of their actions. The same holds true when they are considered suspects and are being questioned by law enforcement officers,”(“How Should Police Read…”).…

Today more and more citizens are becoming careless when it comes to the law. They think it is some silly rule that they do not need to follow. Frank Trippett in this excerpt from “A Red Light for Scofflaws” argues that Americans are used to thinking that the law-and-order is threatened mainly by violent crime and if little laws like littering speeding or noise pollution are a big deal or not. He explains how people seem to think you are a fool if you obey the rules. All laws are laws and they are made for a reason.…

The current law in America states that a person who is the age of twenty-one or older is legally allowed to consume alcohol. There are many arguments whether this law should be changed to a lower age, preferably eighteen, or raised to an age somewhere around twenty-five. When the hardcore facts concerning this substance are thoroughly examined and thought over, one would see there is only one answer to this dispute. The United States has many problems concerning alcohol and younger people in today’s society; therefore, the legal drinking age must be raised.…

Some people disagree with the fact that juveniles should not be charged in adult court due to the fact that some children go back to committing crimes right after juvenile “rehabilitation”. However, youths are also not allowed to vote or drink. “We know they’re still minors — they’re developmentally less mature and responsible and more impulsive, erratic and vulnerable to negative peer pressure” (Maroney). This goes back to the fact that juveniles’ cognitive ability to distinguish right from wrong behavior can be difficult for them. Take the Columbine Colorado shooting for example, or any school shooting for that matter.…

A Later Start Time “Sleep is a simple yet powerful potion with the ability to enhance learning, boost creativity, fight infection, fuel growth, and balance mood.” says Dr. Helene A. Emsellem, the author of Snooze...or Lose! Middle schools should change their start times to later in the day because more sleep means better academic performance, less sleep deprivation, and would positively affect athletic performance. People argue that a later start time will affect extracurricular sports, and that the bus schedules will conflict with the start times. An argument that there is still plenty of time after before the sun goes down in the fall and the winter to practice, and more sleep improves athletic performance. Schools should change their start time to later in the day because more sleep means better academic performance.…

Because of this, the city council should think in not putting a curfew in effect for young teenagers due to making it being unfair to them. Another thing that this curfew can do if it was in effect by the city council is interrupt family related activities that are done outside at night. If a family was to go camping, then it is not possible because of the curfew and that it will not allow them to enjoy camping outside due to the curfew in effect at 10 P.M. on the weekdays or midnight on the weekend. Based on this, the family's teenage kids will not be allowed outside to enjoy their family activities because of the specific time of the curfew. From this, it show that curfew will be unfair to teenagers on having an extraordinary night with doing what their family have planned to do together.…
