Automobile accidents continue to cause death of many teens, reaching an amount of nearly 40% of all teenage fatalities. The thought of changing the age a teenager drives has been argued and discussed over the years. Opposers to the idea say that teenagers should get their driver license as soon as possible while supporters say that it will decrease the amount of teen deaths caused by deadly car accidents. According to the article, “ Debate: Increasing the Driving Age” states that, “ Multiple studies prove that sixteen-year-olds are involved in more automobile accidents than 18-year-olds because they are less mature; therefore,increasing the driving age will save thousands of lives”. Most accidents can be more preventable if they raise the age so, people who are inexperienced are off the streets. Statistics show that cars are a prime killer of teens. According to the article multiple studies prove that sixteen-year-olds are involved in more automobile accidents than 18 -year-olds because they are less mature. So with the driving aw raised there would be more mature people on the streets. Driving is a dangerous activity that 16-year-olds should not engage in because they are not responsible enough, according to appendix B. The law limits childrens power to make decisions and engage in certain activities in many other contents, according to appendix B. Many people think that the maturity is the problem it is mainly the lack of experience. According to appendix B, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 3,827 teens were killed in 2002 and 3,657 drivers killed in 2003 between the ages of fifteen and twenty.
