Overall, every execution has a total price of around $250 million, which could be spent on more pressing matters. Alone, the state of California could save $1 billion in taxpayer money over the next five years if they eliminate the death penalty and replace it with life without parole. The United States are in bad company with other countries that have the death penalty. We ranked fifth in the world for most executions coming behind China, Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.
