This has been the case for one hundred forty four people affording to Pema Levy (2014) “since 1973 one hundred forty-four people on death row have been exonerated as a percentage of all death sentences that 's just 1.6 percent”. This number hopefully will rise and the innocent will get their case reviewed as long as the evidence is there.
California and the death penalty has a long and rich history. According to California department of corrections and rehabilitation, the first state conducted execution was help March 3, 1893, in California. From 1893 to 2016 California has gone back and forth with the penalty, some even, it cruel and usual punishment. According to author Liliana Segura (2016) “Yet a full decade later, California has not executed a single person”.
Since California has not excited an individual in over a dedicated, they still lead all thirty- nine states with seven hundred forty-one inmates on death row according to the death penalty information center. Which is a very interesting statistic if you think about it. It 's unfortunate those inmates who are waiting on death row in California will likely never be freed or even executed anytime
