Although there haven't been many executions since 1999, however, there were over 90 executions in the year 1999 according to CNN. In addition to this, the united states government hasn't executed anyone in over 60 years. Also, Texas has executed over 550 people in the last 40 years, according to the Washington Post. The death penalty should not be in effect in the united states of America.
My first point is that many people have been wrongfully convicted and killed for crimes they didn’t commit. This causes more drama in people and has the ability to harm one or more person. By eliminating the death penalty this won't be an issue in the U.S.
