The opposition believes that juveniles should be allowed to be sentenced to mandatory life in prison.the opposition claims that recent brain research made on teen brains has nothing to do with teens committing crime. Author of On Punishment and Teen Killers, Jennifer Jenkins claims that, “ Advocates often repeat, but truly misunderstand brain research on this issue. The actual science does not… in any way negate criminal culpability” (Jenkins). The idea behind this statement is that the recent research on teenage brains is invalid for proving a juvenile less innocent. This idea is highly disagreeable because juveniles are nothing like adults especially in decision making. It is claimed by the Supreme Court in Pequenza’s documentary 15 to Life that, “kids are different” (Pequenza). Juveniles are different then adults their brain is not as mature as a adults brain is hence why the opposition's argument/ ideal is disagreeable.…

Some people think that juveniles need a second chance to be rehabilitated and become better members of society. That isn’t the case at times, not every person who commits a crime can change for the better. There are always chances of recidivism. That does mean that there isn’t hope for other juveniles who commit crimes to be rehabilitated.…

While some people believe that 18 to 24 year olds should never be tried as adults, I believe that they should. By the time you hit 18, you have lived and learned enough to know what’s right, and what’s wrong. All your life, you’ve grown up learning do’s and the don’ts of pretty much everything. While they may not have been as extensive as they are today, they are still things that we should have carried on with us into our later years of life.…

They have the same choice in making the decision to commit the crime so why would they not get the same amount of time as an adult? If they make adult decisions then they should get the adult consequences. There will always be someone bias in the jury but as they do get convicted of the crime, juveniles still get less time than adults. When the crime is murder, however, juveniles do get sentenced to life without parole depending on the extent. “Difference in responsibility measures indicated that those in the twenty five year old group were significantly more inclined to take responsibility for their own actions and view behaviors in long term” (Bryan-Hancock and Casey 66). This indicates that anyone under twenty five does not take responsibility for their actions. When it comes to being guilty or not guilty not everyone does take responsibility but they still get their punishment. No matter the age of a individual they should be tried as an adult and have to take responsibility for their own actions whether they want to or not. A juvenile could be given a short sentence and/or just probation and have the idea in their head that they can get away with a crime. The next crime they commit can be far worse and result in harming another individual in…

This wanting to be and act older may come with some bad side affects. Teens sometimes get caught up in this wanting to be older lifestyle and start running with the wrong crowd. Peer pressure then takes place and violent crimes from juveniles start to happen. If a person under the age of 18 commits a violent crime such as murder, they should be tried as an adult due to they know the crime they committed is wrong, it harmed another person 's life, and if a strong consequence does not happen to them, then they will keep doing the same crime or even move to worse crimes.…

Good morning. Society is faced with an increasingly growing problem. The problem is that children and teens are committing heinous crimes at a young age. The question is, do we sentence these children and teens to incarceration for the rest of their lives, or do we instead try to rehabilitate these teens and children and find the root causes of these problems? Do we not give them a second chance and let them rot in prison, or do we rehabilitate them and help them become important members of society? Children as young as nine years old are being tried as an adult in trial. Is it fair to hold these children and teens to the same mentality of adults? Children and teens should not be tried as adults, instead the judicial system should focus on…

Juveniles should not be tried as adults for it is wrong to hold adolescents, under the legal age, to adult standards. If children do not even receive the same rights as adults in the first place, it makes no sense to try them in adult court. These juveniles should have the opportunity to be rehabilitated in a positive manner, for they tend to come from troubled households and violent neighborhoods. In over half of the cases these troubled kids don’t know any different way than a life of crime when surrounded by both social and environmental factors that influence their delinquent actions. One must commemorate that juveniles are mentally underdeveloped, and still have time to innovate if their issues are dealt with precisely and accurately. Trying juveniles as adults gives them open opportunity to associate with violent offenders, and the chance to become victimized or assaulted. Consequently, this justifies…
