Should Technology Be Used In The Classroom?

Technology should no longer be used in the classroom, it supplies students with unlimited distractions and turns a learning environment into a playing field. Teachers are giving students the opportunity to use a computer or tablet at school may seem like an advantage to some, but it does the opposite of help students learn. Not only does it include students staring at a screen all day, but students are given the key to a world full of distractions. Anything from browsing their social media accounts, to cheating on tests, technology gives students all the power. Although using computers for student’s work may make life easier for teacher, it does not help students earn the education they deserve. As a precaution, most schools block distracting websites during certain hours of the day. The website Cengage claims, “59% said students are busy checking out their favorite social-media sites’(Strang). For example, at Poston Butte High School, websites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Netflix are blocked from 5 am through 3 pm. This method is an attempt to make sure students are doing their work rather than being distracted by the advantage of technology in the classroom. The problem with this method is that students can download proxies that unblock all websites. Students can do this by going into the Chrome Web Store and typing in keywords such as, “proxy”, or “VPN”. Many schools will punish students for downloading these proxies if the students are caught with one downloaded to their computer. In no means does this stop the …show more content…
Students feel like they have a right to it rather than it being a privilege, and they take advantage of it. Instead of doing their work, they are on social media or texting their friends. Students would rather work on English homework in Math class and vice versa. They are not focusing on what needs to be done. One of the worse things is that they are not earning their grade, these schools are giving them an open door to easily cheating on classwork, homework, and tests. Whether they look it up, or just share the answers with each other on Google Drive. The matter of the fact is that student using laptops, tablets, and phones in the classroom in not helping to further their education. The teachers are basically handing an A to the students without them even attempting at doing the work or taking the tests
