Should Teachers Have Guns In Schools

Depending on who a person talks to will depend on the opinion one will receive when talking about gun free zones and having guns in schools. To some people, even the sight of a weapon brings fear to their very core, while others look at it as a way to be protected from the bad guys of the world. The right to "keep and bear arms" is enshrined in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and reflects a deeply held American belief in the use of weapons - particularly guns - for sport and for protection (Donnelly, 2015). A large percentage of Americans feel this is a God given right that we have to bear arms. Especially when it comes to protecting our greatest export that we as Americans have, our youth. Experts suggest having guns in school will cut the response time of these senseless tragedies to seconds, instead of minutes, and it will discourage most potential active shooters from even thinking they can have any success with their rampages. …show more content…
Let’s also talk about those that are at school every day trying to do their job to the best of their ability “TEACHERS”. What would you say about a teacher having a gun on campus to protect him or herself and their students? Is this a good thing or bad thing? This is where this debate starts to heat up. There has been quite a bit of research done on this very topic. The good that is shown on the research is that the time it takes to confront a shooter or anyone looking to inflict harm is turned into seconds instead of minutes. Now saying this, it is proven that having a school resource officer on scene is the best scenario. If that is not possible, maybe the next best thing is having a volunteer teacher or teachers that have been trained and is continuing to be trained by professionals.
