Teachers Should Be Allowed To Carry Guns In Schools

I am writing to you concerning the issue of teachers allowed to carry guns in our schools, specifically grades kindergarten through eighth. As an eighth grader, I do not believe that teachers should be allowed to have a gun in school and also do not feel comfortable going to school in an environment that contains guns. Our country is at a point of crisis where we are trying to solve gun safety in schools, many people believe that arming teachers is the solution and some districts have already armed teachers. But is bringing guns into schools the solution, if we want to keep them away and out of schools? Many people want teachers to possess guns in schools as a way to keep the students safe, but it comes with many cons. Having students in an environment with guns is dangerous and students can get injured. Just recently on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 a teacher accidentally fired a gun in a classroom mildly injuring three students. An article by Star Telegram stated that “Alexander was pointing the gun at the ceiling Tuesday to make sure it was not loaded when it discharged inside his classroom at Seaside High School.” Although Alexander did not intentionally fire the gun, it is clear evidence of why …show more content…
Many of those districts live in very rural areas where it takes several minutes for police to reach the school and some don’t have a local police station at all, relying only on the county sheriff. These schools would need to take action before the law enforcement arrives which backs up why they allow teachers to have guns. But Keller ISD is not in that position and we do have a local police station nearby. We do not need teachers with guns to protect us, we need teachers to teach. What we need is campus security officers to protect us as they are trained to protect and defend the students and staff because that is their

It is fought in both the smallest and largest school districts in many states. Many districts remain opposed to arming teachers because of all the potential issues with having guns within a school. However, history tells us that it’s better to be safe than sorry, and in this case teachers would rather carry a concealed handgun and never use the gun than not have a gun but need one. Teachers and administrators should be allowed to carry guns on school grounds in an effort to help protect our…

Much of the authority over whether to allow guns in schools rests at the state and local levels. In Ohio, school boards are allowed to arm school personnel but are not required to notify the public that they have done so. In some states, teachers and other employees can carry a gun without anyone’s knowledge, including that of school authorities, so long as they hold a valid concealed-carry permit. No one knows how many schools in the United States have armed teachers or staff members. It was a free three day gun class in Rittman k-12 public school employees offers by the Buckeye Firearms.…

Many teachers and administrators are unsure about how pupils may handle altercations and stressors of everyday campus life with the easy access of guns and worry that talking to students about their schoolwork and grades can cause retaliation. Dear Lamar Times Editor, April 13, 2018 We are students at Purvis Middle School and we would like to talk about an argument that we feel strongly about, which is the topic of arming teachers. Recently people have been talking about arming teachers. People say that this will lead to less school shootings and it might, but there's more to this than people realize and it will be a lot harder said than done. Have you ever thought of the teachers position? How would the teachers feel?…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

The fact that the firearms are concealed is crucial. Since the handguns are concealed, a criminal would be unable to detect whether a classroom has armed staff or not (Crime Prevention Research Center). Students who are nervous when seeing firearms wouldn't be scared because the handguns would be hidden. President Trump advises school boards to protect the staff of each district with insurance to reduce the risk of liability, which should put those with concern for the staff at ease (“Arming Teachers and School Staff”).…

If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…

Over the past few years there has been an escalation in the use for guns. One reason for why this might be happening is because the guns are being used for mass school shootings, such as: the Sandy Hook shooting, the Parkland shooting, and many others that people don't even know about. This problem has now caused a controversy over whether teachers should carry guns while working in school or not. Many people believe that the only way to defend children during these shootings is if the staff carry guns. Although this idea seems to have many great advantages against shooters, it also opens room for more issues involving the children and the teachers.…

These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
