Should Teachers Be Allowed To Carry In School?

Improved Essays
Tragedies that take place on school grounds send shockwaves through communities. This brings up the argument of whether or not teachers should be allowed to carry a firearm. This topic appeals to me, not because I am a huge advocate for guns, but because safety on school grounds should be of the utmost importance. Ultimately, teachers who elect to carry a firearm on school grounds would have to pass extensive background checks and training. Provisions and policies would have to be set in place to make sure students would have zero access to the firearm and that it be locked away securely. Safety and a sense of protection of our loved ones is an essential issue that needs to be taken seriously. Exploring the topic of teachers being allowed

In the United States, over 30,000 people are fatally injured by firearms every year. However, progress on acts and laws that attempt to restrict the distribution and sales of weapons often times comes to a screeching halt, as the use of personal firearms has been an important part of America’s history. While there are concrete and sufficient arguments for the use of guns in the United States, a myriad amount of statistics has shown that the fact of the matter is, personal firearms cause much more harm today than they did in 1791 when the Second Amendment of the U.S. constitution was adopted. With school shootings popping up out of thin air the argument of if teachers should be armed with weapons is a hot topic. Laws shouldn’t change to allow teachers to be armed with weapons. The first of many reasons is because students could feel unsafe, or fearful with a gun being near them. Maybe even because they feel the teacher dislikes them that the person would snap one day, and do something that should never transpire. With a student feeling in an unsafe environment they would tend to be more distracted making them not as focused as much on what they are learning.…

The issue of whether or not students and teachers should be allowed to carry guns on campus remains hotly debated in the U.S. Specifically, the campus gun issue, which has legally been christened as ‘concealed campus carry’, has been popularized by the recent heightened incidences of mass shootings that have been reported in various American universities (Hardy, 140). One of the most deadly gun attack targeting a university, which took place in 2007, triggered several states to consider pushing for legislations that would allow teachers and students to carry guns in campuses. So far, more than 20 states have introduced such legislations (DeBrabander, 38). However, concealed carry suffered a serious setback after a former student carried a gun…

We trust our teachers to mold and develop our children into outstanding young adults, and we enact policies that make sure every child has a safe education. It seems though, we can not put the same trust and polices together to provide a safer education for the new generation. With all the school shootings happening, teachers are beginning to speak up and say they are comfortable carrying concealed handguns in the classroom. While in the classroom the teachers word is law, many parents are protesting this, because they think it could somehow put the kids in further danger. These are the main arguments against teachers carrying firearms: kids will get their hands on the guns, kids will be afraid in the classroom, and it will teach kids that violence is the answer.…
