The use of tablets to replace physical textbooks is harmful because it can lead to “eyestrain,” “headaches,” and “difficulty focusing” (Cashin-Garbutt). The tablets can cause eyestrain and headaches early on in a child’s life depending on when the use is started. These physical problems can continue to trouble the students even up until their adulthood. Now, this is not saying that this is an immediate injury. This is something that could start affecting the children later on in life. Because students have grown up with technology and use it in their daily lives, it would make sense for schools to start using them as learning aids, rather than books.
